Around 2004, Ilegal's founder John Rexer began bringing mezcal down from Oaxaca to Antigua to supply his bar, Café No Sé. The means by which he obtained this Mezcal were a bit unofficial to say the least, hence its name. The demand became overwhelming as the fame of the Oaxaca Tequila spread quickly. Rich in smokey flavor Ilegal Mezcal Anejo is truly an artisanal Mezcal that is produced in small lots. Commitment to sustainability and biodiversity Ilegal Mezcal uses 100% natural ingredients, no artificial colors, yeasts, flavors, or additives. Each batch is aged in medium charr, American Oak bourbon barrels for thirteen months, double distilled then hand corked, labeled, and numbered for you to enjoy!
