Although inspired by traditional Scottish distilleries, Founder, Shinjiro Torii envisioned a new Japanese approach to whiskey by choosing a location offered a vastly different climate than Scotland. Situated near three rivers, the Katsura, Uji and Kizu, Suntory Distillery is Japan's first whisky distillery.
Yamazaki 18 Year Old Single Malt Whisky is made from 100% malted barley, which is milled and mashed before being fermented in Suntory's proprietary wooden vats. After the fermentation the liquid is distilled through copper-pot stills. Matured in casks made of three different types of wood; American, Spanish and Japanese oak.
