Barkan was founded in 1990, by Yair Lerner and Shmuel Boxer. They immediately set forth on a program of modernization and the planting of vineyards, which they saw as the key to the production of fine wine and expansion of the company. Today Barkan receives grapes from vineyards from all the best regions in Israel; such as the Golan Heights, the Upper Galilee and the Lebanese border area, the lower Galilee and Tavor, the Jerusalem mountains, and Israel’s south, around Mitzpe Ramon.

Among Barkan's vast collections is the Altitude Series. As one of the main influential factors which affect the characteristics of the wine, it was only fitting that each wine be named for the altitude in which the grapes are grown.

The grapes for Barkan Altitude Series 624+ Cabernet Sauvignon are sourced from the Alma vineyard, located in Northern Galil. Here, limestone and basalt soils force the vines to struggle year-round which perfects the character of their fruit. The wine presents a perfect balance between a rich and concentrated black fruit and sweet spices to give a layered complexity and smooth tannins.
